Case Study: How Taptheme Helps Sengistix, a Health and Safety Provider

We recently had the pleasure of meeting Mike Demopoulos of Sengistix at Joomla Day Chicago on August 5, 2011.  Sengistix is a company that works with assessing areas of concern and vulnerability to meet individual needs.  They designed a product called the S.E.N.S. System (Secure Environmental Network of Support System) that allows caregivers to monitor select activities of individuals remotely. S.E.N.S. hardware and software identifies and responds to the right set of conditions.  For example, a motion sensor may be placed under an individuals bed to detect if a particular patient or individual has fallen.  It can also email the caregiver if the required dose of medication has been consumed at a particular time.

Below is a Sengistix sample floor plan to provide an insight of the S.E.N.S. sensor installation.

Sengistix Floor Plan

S.E.N.S. is a highly useful system that was recently addressed in an article posted in the North Metro Star Tribune "Solo Life At High Tech Home."   This article is about a man, Jeremy Collins, with down syndrome who was able to get the S.E.N.S. System installed in his home.  At the age of 31, Collins can now have his privacy and spend more time without his caregiver.  Mr. Collins has a security keypad called a "Stove Guard" to turn on the stove.  He has a motion sensor in the bathroom to alert when he is in there or motionless for more than 20 minutes.  The same motion sensor provides a signal of a possible fall and as used in our example, he also has a sensor in his medicine box which in turn, alerts his family if he forgets to take them.  Sengistix created a dream home not only for Collins but for his parents who prayed for his security and independence when they are no longer around to care for him.  Through technology, Sengistix has given them hope.

As most systems, the S.E.N.S. System requires 24/7 customer care, maintenance and support.  Pixel Praise is delighted to recognize Sengistix as a healthcare provider that implemented Taptheme to maintain S.E.N.S. support on the Apple iPad.  Demopoulos states, "We wanted to integrate our protocol, consumer health information, floor plans, digital logbook, weather and medication lookup resourced into one fast easy to use solution.  We determined Joomla to be the framework of our platform and decided to use a modified version of iPad TapTheme from Pixel Praise to be our template.  We wanted an interface that utilized our intuitive touch desktop terminal while at the same time can be “on-the-go” with the iPad and other tablet devices..."  Taptheme was created for this very reason and has become quite beneficial for their support on the run.  Below are screenshots for the use of Taptheme.  You can see their Sengistix Staff Portal, the DigiLog which is the Sengistix Staff Response Log, an article showing the use of the Joomla editor within the iPad, and Sengistix Weather Updates for individuals who fear and must watch weather while alone.

We couldn't be any more flattered to see our product used for healthcare purposes and admire the hardwork of Sengistix for putting this together for their support team.  Through the use of S.E.N.S. stove guard and sensors, Sengistix unites individuals with technology.  Demopolous ends with these great words, "The biggest asset of the Sengistix staff portal is correctness of our information; we have reduced the human error but only editing one location and have it populate all required databases. Secondly is time, if we accept an alert every second counts for our clients and the people they serve...Sengistix is now truly “People and Technology Working Together”"
